In 2010, there were 44,829 runners cross the finish line in the New York City Marathon. That’s A LOT of people dedicated to an exercise program (it’s really far).
Last week three of my kids and I walked a 5K walk for the American Heart Association. There about 10,000 people downtown in 44 degree, partly rainy weather. We could have bailed on our participation but instead we layered our clothes, got out our umbrella’s, grabbed a jog stroller for my 7 year old who I knew couldn’t walk that far, and off we went.
It was really something to see. My kids understood that we were following through with a community service commitment which is important to me to teach to them.
It ended up being a lot of fun, really great people watching and a great accomplishment that we completed together!
